Aspiring Cricketers Across GEMS School Glorious Performance At The GEMS Cricket Cup

The 2nd GEMS Cricket Cup was grand and even better this season. We saw many spectacular performances throughout the whole tournament which took place over 8 days from the 20th to 23rd and 27th to 30th of January 2019 at state-of-the-art venue, GEMS Heritage Indian school. The junior cricketers across GEMS schools competed in four age categories namely U10, U12, U14 and U16.

Some of UAE’s best young cricket players from 19 schools across UAE participated in the competition. With 400+ participants competing, 64 champions and 18 trophies, the GEMS Sports Series ensured to offer more opportunities to the young cricketers.  This season GEMS Cricket Cup promised some amazing trilling actions and we even saw new champions and schools being rewarded across the age group.

Various GEMS schools have won this year which have been a good spread of schools receiving trophies. The boys from The Kindergarten Starters (KGS) won the U10 category. The cricket cup took an exciting turn for GEMS Modern Academy (GMA) who won the U12 and U14 category. Outshining in the U16 category were the boys from The Winchester School (TWS).

Throughout the tournament, the young cricketers combined to score more than 4000 runs, as well as notch more than 200 wickets. In the GEMS Cricket Cup U10 final, The Kindergarten Starters (KGS) played against Jumeirah Primary School (JPS). KGS put in some dominating performances in their group games and won by 84 runs.  They were the youngest players of the tournament but their impact on the field was amazing to see.

GEMS Modern Academy (GMA) consistent performance throughout the tournament ensures they won U12 final by 151 runs against Jumeirah Primary School (JPS), as well as the U14 final by 9 wickets over playing against GEMS Heritage Indian School (GHS).

The U16 final had a similar story with some impressive bowlings and battings. The match started with the winning toss of TWS and eventually a disciplined bowling and fielding display from TWS outperformed GEMS Winchester School, Dubai (WIN), as TWS won by 6 wickets.

The tournament saw spectacular performances across all age groups.  Shashank (KGS) was awarded MVP in the U10 category. Akshat (GMA) was awarded in the U12 category. Asif wonderful performance earned him the title of MVP in the U14 category while his mate Adithya was named MVP in the U16 category for his splendid performances throughout the cricket cup.
