The GEMS Swim Cup, the most awaited swimming competition in the GEMS Sports Series calendar, took place last month. The annual event takes place between all the GEMS schools in the UAE and every year the standards gets higher and the timings come down.
19 schools and 500+ children took part - watched by hundreds of supporters - where countless records were broken at the Hamdan Sports Complex.
GEMS Swimmers returned to the event, stronger and better prepared than last year. Even the professionals from Hamilton Aquatics, technical partners of the GEMS Swim Cup, were left impressed with the way the juniors powered their way through the pool.
At the end of 2 action packed days, GEMS World Academy School finished top among competing schools with an impressive total of 42 medals and took home the most number of gold medals in both the boys and girls categories.
In second place were GEMS Modern Academy on 25 medals. GEMS Wellington, Silicon Oasis came third on 47 medals, fourth place was taken by Wellington International School on 18 medals and Fifth place went to Jumeirah College on 20 medals.
Children took part in races covering all four strokes - breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly - plus individual medleys and team relays for boys and girls. The race distances ranged from 50 to 100 metres.
