GEMS Sports Series to be Bigger Than Ever in its 2nd Year

The highly anticipated 2nd season of the GEMS Sport Series kicks off in Term1 of 2017. It is a season that is expected to be bigger and better than ever before. The annual school sports series, which showcases the talents of the best sports athletes from every GEMS schools, will now be even more inclusive as this season will be open to schools outside the network as well.

While the sports series continues to see an increase in the number of players year on year, the sport series will look to add more sports to the calendar to support the increased appetite within the schools. In addition to Triathlon, Football, Swimming, Track & Field, Netball and Badminton, sports such as Basketball, Touch Rugby, Tennis and Cricket will be included in this years edition.

It is fair to say that their addition is another positive step in a tournament that is high on confidence. Also, keeping in mind that the tournaments helps boost the performance of key athletes with an eye to a promising future.

Last year’s GEMS Sport Series saw 2,159 athletes compete from across 21 schools with 896 medals being awarded.

Another important factor that needs to be looked into is what the GEMS Sport Series does for the overall popularity of the sport curriculum across the GEMS network. The sport series will also help school grown athletes perform better on their development pathway.

Sir Chris Stone, Chief Education Officer at GEMS Education said “Thanks to the vision of our sports partner, East Sports Management (ESM), the GEMS Sport Series has changed the landscape for school sports events. I am excited to see more and more schools competing on the big stage from all corners of the UAE”

Series creator and Managing Director of ESM, James Bowring said “What makes the tournaments special is that individuals and teams can represent themselves and their school to participate and compete against children from all backgrounds and abilities. James added “It’s also encouraging to see great talent on display at the tournaments who are committed to sport and have the potential to become elite athletes of the future”

The GEMS Sport Series, like the Triathlon, will also host non-competitive events to offer all students to be active and have fun with friends and family.
